Job Swap: Put Yourself In Someone Else’s Shoes

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Jason Salstein of Capretto Shoes has the dream job many women would kill for.

He is the head buyer at a high-end shoe and handbag store in South Miami. Salstein purchases accessories for Capretto Shoes from top fashion houses such as Fendi, Gucci, YSL, and Prada.

When women walk in the store, they light up with excitement. Capretto Shoes attracts the fashion elite, including socialites and celebrities.

In the store’s showroom, about 50 pairs of shoes are displayed. Many of them go for $1,000 to $2,000 a pair, and some of the handbags go for double that amount.

Salstein travels to Paris and Milan each year to attend fashion shows where he sees super models wear potential merchandise he might buy.

Walter Makaula got the chance to view the merchandise on the Internet and ordered four pricey handbags for the store.

“We’re going to go buy Alexander McQueen handbags which we just saw in Paris,” said Salstein. “The big one is going for $3,395 and the mini heroine is going for $2,395. We’re going to order two of each and that’s it.”

With a click of the mouse, more than $11,000 was spent on just four handbags.

“Not just any bags, they’re runway, and they’re Alexander McQueen with wood plate detail,” said Salstein.

The shop’s stockroom, which is the size of a typical living room, contains over a million dollars in merchandise on the shelves.

Although the merchandise is pretty pricey, the items don’t stay on the shelves for long, thanks in part to the store’s social media push.

Once a new shipment arrives, shoes are strapped on one of the female employees or even a customer and then photographed. The pictures are then posted on the store’s Instagram account where their more than 5,000 followers can see the new arrival.

It may not be his dream job, but Makaula understood why women love this store.
